Everybody, everybody got a book of rhymes, poetry, words, sentences and thoughts. Based off the underground release of Success Story: In Search of Hip Hop, Carrying the Wait: a book of rhymes is the written, lyrical expression of a young man bearing the weight of his people and their experience.
As we all are waiting for something to come into our lives, this book tells the story of a boy becoming a man carrying the weight, but not waiting for something to come to him while learning how to live life.

Through rhyme and poetic expression, Carrying the Wait…takes the reader on a journey through the author’s life as he searches for hip hop, God and love. Influenced by hip hop music and culture the author uses the written tradition to share his story, continue the legacy of the people who came before him, and to provide a path for the upcoming generations.

About the author: Born in Philadelphia, h.k. beverly is a dj, emcee, writer and student of life. He attended Girard College High School in Philadelphia. After his graduation, he went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. Upon graduating from the University of Wisconsin, he returned home to Philadelphia, and to Girard College where he currently serves as a Residential Advisor for high school boys. He has made appearances as a dj and emcee in countries across Europe. He has performed in some of Philadelphia’s famous hip hop venues, such as the famed Five Spot, Medusa Lounge and the University of Pennsylvania’s Rotunda Theater.
